Visiting Allen Fieldhouse from the Kansas City Airport Area

Allen Fieldhouse stands on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence and serves as a KU athletics venue. The arena was dedicated on March 1, 1955, when Kansas defeated Kansas State 77–66 before a crowd of 17,228. It is named for Dr. F.C. “Phog” Allen, who coached the Jayhawks for 39 years.

The building measures 344 feet by 254 feet, with 60-foot sidewalls and a roof peak 85 feet high. For a first visit, use the venue’s address to orient yourself, then check the specific entrance and parking instructions for your event or tour. The Jayhawk Essential guided tour lasts 45–60 minutes and includes stops at Allen Fieldhouse and other KU athletics locations. The tour begins at Booth Family Hall of Athletics, at 1651 Naismith Drive, Lawrence, KS 66045.

Tour stops and locations may change based on availability. Tickets are required for children ages 3 and older, and tickets are non-refundable. Tours run Monday–Friday from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; Saturday tours require tickets purchased at least 48 hours in advance. Operating hours are subject to change, so check the official site before you go.

KU Parking recommends hourly spaces in the Mississippi Street, Allen Fieldhouse, or Central District garages. The rate is $2.25 for the first hour or any part of it, then $2.00 for each additional hour. Rates and parking rules can change.

The Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage is north of the venue at Naismith Drive and Irving Hill Road; its entrance is on Irving Hill Road, and its address is 1501 Irving Hill Road. Payment or a permit is required at all times.

You can pay at a station with cash, Visa, or MasterCard, or use a parking app within 15 minutes of entering; have your license plate number ready. Most campus parking lots are restricted year-round, so follow posted signs.

For limited-mobility and wheelchair guests, KU identifies the south entrance as the accessible drop-off and pick-up point. Accessible seating is on the floor level at the north and south ends of the venue.

For men’s basketball, accessible parking in Lots 54, 71, 72, and the garage costs $35 per vehicle, is first-come, first-served, and requires a state-issued accessible plate or hangtag.

For women’s basketball, those accessible spaces are free and first-come, first-served. If accessible parking is full, paratransit-equipped shuttle service runs from Lot 54, the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage, and Lot 90 (Economy Parking).

For court access, KU Athletics’ directions say to go west on Fieldhouse Drive from Naismith Drive. The preferred entrances are Gate 12 or the garage-door entrance directly south of Gate 12. Check the instructions for your event or tour before choosing an entrance, since access arrangements may vary.
